Found a tip to remove the package "openoffice.org-gtk" via Synaptic, although
it didn't seem to fit my problem 100%:
The tip basically said there's a problem with this package if you use themes
other than "Human" - which I do use. But I gave it a try - and in my case, it
solved the crashes. For the last hour or so, I did some weird, frantic
acrobatics in Impress, actions that before the removal of the package would
have crashed Impress soon. Also, started form a terminal, no warnings are
displayed anymore.
On the downside: The interface now looks historically gray, but I prefer
stability over looks.
Will retry with the next update of the OO software.

Cheers, Tino
