Public bug reported: Impact ====== Ptyxis is a new terminal app that is used by default in Fedora 41. Ptyxis allows switching between different palettes. One part of palettes is the background color which did not change because of interaction with a patch for vte2.91 carried by Debian and Ubuntu. This has been worked around in ptyxis 47.4.
In particular, it was intended for the desktop background to be purple (aubergine) as has been done for Ubuntu's default terminal app for many years. What Could Go Wrong =================== ptyxis has no reverse dependencies in Ubuntu 24.10. Therefore, it is only installed by people who specifically sought it out. This is a one-line targetted fix which only affects the ptyxis background. Every Ubuntu desktop flavor includes a terminal other than ptyxis by default so even if ptyxis were completely broken by this update, it is easy for a user to switch to a different terminal to continue working. Other Info ========== Ptyxis is not yet in GNOME Core but it is expected to happen in a future GNOME release. Therefore, it seems that the best way to fix this issue for Ubuntu 24.10 is to cherry-pick the specific fixes we need rather than upgrade ptyxis to the new bugfix release. ** Affects: ptyxis (Ubuntu) Importance: Low Status: Fix Committed ** Affects: ptyxis (Ubuntu Oracular) Importance: Low Status: Triaged ** Affects: ptyxis (Debian) Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Description changed: Impact ====== Ptyxis is a new terminal app that is used by default in Fedora 41.
