While no IRC nickname is provided in David's user profile, I believe it
was the two of us who worked through this in #ubuntu on Libera
yesterday. Can you confirm, David?

He had

71:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device
[10ec:8126] (rev 01)
          Subsystem: ASRock Incorporation Device [1849:8126]

not working on 24.04 LTS, as expected.

After installing (from noble-proposed) and booting to kernel
6.11.0-1006-oem #6, the driver reports:

r8169 0000:71:00.0: error -ENODEV: unknown chip XID 64a, contact r8169
maintainers (see MAINTAINERS file)

This is with the firmware update
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/gitea/kernel/linux-
firmware/raw/commit/e7d21bd790bfb6c59f5690e10c01ffbb54ce9dce/rtl_nic/rtl8126a-3.fw
in place in /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/

Lack of support for chip XID 64a was previously reported on the netdev mailing
list, if with an incorrect driver name (in the subject line):
