I have some speculation, I only have my own machine, so it's not like I
can really test this. Just speculating.

I suspect this is caused by the "OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco
Systems, Inc." plugin in Firefox, which re-enabled itself after I
updated my apps. Steam may also be using something similar. I disabled
acceleration in the steam client (obviously not in games).

What I have noticed is that even if it locks up, actually the numlock
key will work. At first, it is slow to respond to numlock, but then it
is responsive. I can't switch to a virtual console, at least not
visually. One bit of speculation is, if it's the h264 codec doing it,
maybe you have to multitask with a 3D app or game at the same time to
get it lock up. Another thing though is I haven't yet returned to my own
system locked up, it only locked up while I was using it.

In case it turns out to matter, I use the Workman keyboard layout.

The end of journalctl -b -1

(I used alt+prtsc REISUB, without knowing if the keyboard layout is
ignored, it is? not sure.)

My system:
OS: Ubuntu MATE 24.04.1 LTS x86_64 (actually, this is just vanilla 24.04, but I
installed MATE, and am using it - but the same lockup happened in Wayland
(until I disabled the h264 codec, and acceleration in the steam client))
