Overall the patch provided in Debian salsa[1] seems like the best option
when looking over possible fixes. I created a PPA[2] using it if you
would like to test. To do so you can run:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lvoytek/mysql-fix-logrotate
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
