After finding evidence of this bug/issue/problem littered all over the internet, I found a simple work around on reddit.
'Couldn't find a real fix, but this workaround worked for me on Xfce: select Gdebi from the Applications menu, right click on it, choose Edit, check "Run in terminal" and Save.' Is gdebi abandonware? It's so nice and simple when it works. Some evidence of the bug are here. The final reddit post shows the workaround that 'solves' the issue. I suspect the true issue lies in some sort of security feature that's not behaving correctly: https://www.reddit.com/r/awesomewm/comments/gm7ifm/gdebi_authentication_prompt_not_showing/ https://askubuntu.com/questions/5172/running-a-desktop-file-in-the- terminal https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=4900 https://askubuntu.com/questions/1099387/gdebi-package-installer-not- launching-and-wont-install-deb-files-on-the-des https://askubuntu.com/questions/1300169/gdebi-package-installer-does- nothing https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/wcco8m/gdebi_doesnt_work_on_ubuntu_2204/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1734477 Title: LubuntuNext 17.10 - When not run from terminal, fails upon "Install" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdebi/+bug/1734477/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
