AFAIK libayatana-appindicator is a "Non-Unity-Specific" fork of
libappindicator.

At some point (I believe during 20.04) libappindicator was abandoned and
libayatana-appindicator was marked as a replacement.

While they were mostly compatible, at some point software packages (eg.
Spotify) started to require libayatana-appindicator directly and the
libraries started to behave differently in some situations.

The "switch" had to happen at some point (preferably before 24.04) but
was missed in Kubuntu manifest, hence the SRU.

If the change affects dist-upgrade, adding "Provides" in addition to "Replaces" 
might help.
