This log message may have been relevant:

  Failed to use stored monitor configuration: Invalid mode 1024x768
(59.999) for monitor 'unknown unknown'

which is related to your old ~/.config/monitors.xml that mentions:

      <monitor>
        <monitorspec>
          <connector>None-1</connector>
          <vendor>unknown</vendor>
          <product>unknown</product>
          <serial>unknown</serial>
        </monitorspec>
        <mode>
          <width>1024</width>
          <height>768</height>
          <rate>59.999</rate>
        </mode>
      </monitor>

I don't know what a "None-1" connector is. Certainly a reinstall (or
just deleting ~/.config/monitors.xml) might solve that.

Can you still reproduce any problem?
