I experienced this on my desktop with Nvidia-only graphics - the "egl" message in the terminal was the tip-off that installing libnvidia-egl- wayland1, which had worked for me previously to solve some odd Wayland issues, might help here, and it did in fact help in 24.04 as well.
From my "I know next to nothing" perspective, I've read articles that imply that EGL won't be needed soon for Nvidia drivers - but for the time being, should the libnvidia-egl-wayland1 package be added as a dependency to some/all of the Nvidia driver packages / to a metapackage?
