Pleased to report that the PPA packages (version 8.0.0-1ubuntu7.1~jammyppa1) resolve the issue for me.
I verified by downgrading to 8.0.0-1ubuntu7, reproducing the blank screen. Then I upgraded to 8.0.0-1ubuntu7.1~jammyppa1, and the VM display works again.
