Public bug reported:

It would be nice to receive progress during long dpkg-deb -c time.

Specifically, we have dbgsym builds of kenrels that are 6GB+ in size and
take more time to compress than builder timeouts.

If dpkg-deb were to produce output during such long compression times,
it would have been very nice.

I'm thinking something along the lines of piping temp compression files
through pv for regular output. Or something of the sort.
