Hi Rik, of course this is opinion. The prior decision to override the KDE default was also driven by an opinion. However, I feel the team at KDE have excellent UX designers these days, and as professional UX designer as well, I agree with their assessment.
This appears to be the only adjustment of substance in /usr/share/kubuntu-default-settings/klaunchrc. Deleting this file reverts to the KDE default behavior with the animated launch feedback.
