I've been seeing this bug for at least a year (occurring with any number of applications that I run -- it does not seem specific to any particular thing). I came across this bug report today after wondering about possible workarounds. I can confirm that switching to Wayland as @rustyscottweber suggests seems to fix this problem on my machine. I am running Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS.
