@Marco: To me it looks like the Home folder is still shown on the
desktop by default, while the Trash folder is hidden via an ubuntu-
settings override.

No need for dconf-editor. Just right click the desktop, select Desktop
Icons Settings, and show/hide stuff to your liking.
