Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. In the dpkg logs, we can see that the dovecot service failed to start because of this:
Jan 10 16:37:51 bfpro-fim-p01 dovecot[80782]: doveconf: Fatal: Error in configuration file /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-ssl.conf line 13: ssl_key: Can't open file /etc/dovecot/private/dovecot.key: No such file or directory Could you confirm if you removed for the /etc/dovecot/private/dovecot.key for any reason? A simple attempt to fix this would be to use the ssl-cert-snakeoil: # ln -s /etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key /etc/dovecot/private/dovecot.key This is done by the postinst script if you are upgrading from a very old version (older than Bionic), are you upgrading from which Ubuntu release? Since there is not enough information in your report to begin triage or to differentiate between a local configuration problem and a bug in Ubuntu, I am marking this bug as "Incomplete". We would be grateful if you would: provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to "New".
