Public bug reported:

This issue can be replicated on both Ubuntu 21.10 and 22.04 installs,
but is not present on the live USB version of either. It is also not an
issue on Fedora 35 (using aplay directly to device) nor Windows 10. The
issue can be resolved until reboot by unplugging and replugging several
times, as well as switching between speaker and headphones. I am not
sure of a deterministic way to replicate this workaround.

Alsamixer reports the chipset as ALC287, but according to specs it is
actually an ALC3306. I am not sure if this is related.

I can do any additional testing as necessary to narrow down the issue.
