Ok, thanks for the update. Interestingly, AFAIK the iwlwifi driver specifies a max API number (50 in case of the focal 5.4 kernel) and tries to load that firmware and then walks down until it succeeds:
[ 9.458673] iwlwifi 0000:52:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-cc-a0-50.ucode failed with error -2 [ 9.458850] iwlwifi 0000:52:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-cc-a0-49.ucode failed with error -2 [ 9.462480] iwlwifi 0000:52:00.0: loaded firmware version 48.4fa0041f.0 op_mode iwlmvm So the driver loaded iwlwifi-cc-a0-48.ucode and I'm surprised that replacing -46.ucode made a difference for you. Anyways, I'll close the ticket. If you come across this problem again, please open a new ticket. ** Changed in: linux-firmware (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1914837 Title: enabling wifi crashes thinkpad x1 extreme (gen2) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/+bug/1914837/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
