Just to add to this discussion, I've been frustrated by the nvidia
restricted driver but Gutsy may have given me a cheap way around this
problem. I leave the nvidia restricted driver UNTOUCHED, left alone, and
I go with the generic one; then I go to the Screens and Graphics dialog
and choose a generic 1024x768 LCD panel. This gives me no 3D
acceleration but it still looks pretty good, and because I'm not even
touching the glitchy driver, I don't have to worry about freezups or
snow.
