Have the same problem as Will with my T480 on kernel 5.4.0-80-generic (Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS).
One can bring it back for a couple of minutes with the following: sudo rmmod -f psmouse sudo modprobe -v psmouse resync_time=5 resetafter=5 Also have a look at xinput --list to see if it both devices (synaptics and trackpoint) came back.
