I had terrible bass on my X1 Carbon 8th Gen: I fixed it by upgrading the kernel to 5.10.35 with mainline:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cappelikan/ppa sudo apt update sudo apt install mainline then use the graphical interface of mainline to select the correct version.
