Tried to install Hardy Alpha 1 but had problems with graphic resolutions. Suse 11 also had problems with the graphics. I have installed Windows 2008 and Vista 64bit versions without any problems with this system in both VMware and Live versions.
Tried with VMware and live. This system is an AMD 4600 X2. Viewsonic VG2230. Biostar mb with 7xxxx nVidia chip set. 100gb IDE and 500gb Sata drive. 4gb RAM. nVidia 7xxxx chip set. I could not change LCD video to appropriate screen resolution (graphics card or monitor) in order complete the install with either VMware or the live install. Currently using Ubuntu 7.10 64bit with 3d acceleration and graphic affects turned on. Ubuntu 7,10 is my main system and I currently do Windows development with Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003 using VMware Server or VMware Workstation 6.0 on this system. It works great! For some this can be a show stopper and may eliminate some important testing. I am not sure about others but I usually try it first in VMware. If it does not work then there must be some serious problems that may require more time that I have available for testing. I did try the 8.04 version live after the VMware could not continue because I could not see any controls during the install process. I was not able to proceed without further research that I was not able to do at this time. Thank you for all of your great work. The Ubuntu philosophy is one that I appreciate and respect.
