The third option is to cherry-pick the commit from upstream that fixed broken IndependentPlugin. It appears that Ubuntu sosreport doesn't get a "full sync" regularly; rather features/commits cherry-picked on a need basis. So this option might be the one that fits with the current process, iiuc.
