Chris, I did not know the multiple support places that might be involved. I followed the "advice" to report this problem from the updater, which led me to the Kernel group. I use apt, apt-get, and aptitude (depending on the difficulty) for updating. I did spend a long time (from the latest bionic kernel update to now) trying to find a solution for this. I searched all the forums via duckduckgo and none were about a mislaid update element (focal dependencies in bionic distro). I thought that the problem might have been caused by the kernel dependencies list when the kernel was updated. An incidental "solution" may well relate to the other resources you suggest, however, this problem only occurred on update of the kernel to 136 from 135. In that update, the packages did not (from my pea brained memory) include the ones in the bug report. I did note that libc6 was listed as a dependency from 27 to 29 for some of the focal components when I did a build-dep request in apt-get. Since I am not adept at the specific kernel ancillary dependencies that are met to perform the update, and since the problem started with the update, I thought the bug was properly made. I have kubuntu (kde) version of ubuntu which is oriented towards audio elements. Some kernel items (I am guessing) include MIDI devices, audio steam control and linking [pulseaudio], etc. Are distro kernel dependencies verified for release compatibility? That is, are the elements that use the kernel in a given distribution verified anywhere as specific to that kernel long term release, and by whom? The applications looking for focal dependencies may/may-not be focal release. I do not know. Right now this is a bag of worms for me.
