After an upgrade to 20.04, Skype could not detect video and sound devices anymore on my computer. Other software such as cheese or VLC worked fine. As suggested by karl875180, loading uvcvideo module is the way to go. I guess this module was automatically loaded before 20.04. Add this module to /etc/modules so that it's loaded at boot time.
