On further investigation, I have found that I have misdiagnosed the problem. The two computers I was running this on have different screen resolutions, and the problem seems to be related to that and operating in full screen.
To reproduce the problem, start with a video whose resolution is 854x480. With the screen resolution at 1024x768, do this: mplayer -fs video.mpg It breaks with all video formats. It also breaks with Totem and VLC, not just MPlayer. It does NOT BREAK if the screen resolution is higher or lower, or, at least, has been seen to work okay with 1024x960, 800x600 and 640x480. As noted before, using a substantially lower or higher stream resolution (I tried 1280x720 and 720x540) prevents the problem from manifesting. As it may be a chipset-specific issue, the computers I am using are both using Via EPIA MII-12000 motherboards. -- mencoder used with -vf scale tears picture edges for certain range of x values https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/175002 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
