Michael - Thanks for your review and comments. I did not try doing a sync, actually. I saw this pending merge on MOM and the changes that needed to be merged in debian/control. The debian package does not include Build-Depends for x11proto-xext-dev and libxt-dev and I see from the changelog that they were needed for the xorg transition so perhaps they are not needed anymore.
And thanks for pointing out that bug in my debian/control. I should have stated in the changelog that xlibs-dev was being removed, not x11libs-dev.
