This bug looks like a duplicate of bug #93868 which is fixed but I believe that we must confirm that it's really fixed before marking this bug as a duplicate.
How to install and use an animated smiley theme : 1. Download a animated smiley theme like QIP ( http://launchpadlibrarian.net/6861494/gaim-QIPsmileys.tar.gz ) 2. Open Pidgin and click on Tools / Preferences 3. Go to the "Smiley Themes" tab and click on "Add" button 4. Select the previously downloaded theme ( must be a .tar.gz archive ) 5. Make sure the new theme is selected in the list and click on close 6.
