Hi Thorsten, I agree. And that initial low level format issue is currently looked at based on LP 1887669. Having that in mind I came up with the suggestion in comment #21 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/subiquity/+bug/1878596/comments/21) asking for a little detour via the installer shell and doing a manual: 'dasdfmt --disk_layout=cdl -b 4096 /dev/dasda' and 'fdasd -a /dev/dasda' (replace 'dasda' for yours) Due to the richness of the live installer one can almost do everything there, and with that suggestion I wanted to make sure (and narrow down) that the issue is really only caused by a not yet low-level formatted dasd. If formatted this way the installation (and all follow-on installation on this dasd) should work.
