Hi, thank you for your bug.
Ubuntu's aptitude doesn't automatically remove installed kernels. "Unused" 
kernel _headers_ are removed though, and you only need these if you plan to 
compile something against the kernel.

/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/05aptitude contains:
aptitude::Keep-Unused-Pattern "^linux-image.*$ | ^linux-restricted-modules.*$ | 
^linux-ubuntu-modules.*$";
