Public bug reported:

in /ver/log seen problems with python-minimal and other packages to remove and 
upgrade, though no real error flagged. "sudo do-release-upgrade" stops after 
several succsessful reads and status checks with "Es konnte nicht ermittelt 
werden, welche Systemaktualisierungen verfügbar sind"
