You are reporting this bug against Ubuntu 14.04, which has reached the
end of standard support and is only supported for security fixes via the
ESM repository.
There have been significant changes in the plymouth integration since
Ubuntu 14.04.
Please upgrade to a recent version of Ubuntu and let us know if you see
ongoing problems.
Also, note that 'noplymouth' has never been a documented boot option in
Ubuntu.
