Public bug reported: I have two Transcend USB drive enclosures. When they were purchased (in 2019) they were working fine all the time with different disks inside (HDD, SSD). But at some point, probably after some system update, they stopped working completely and are not even visible in partitioning software or fdisk utility.
I use currently Kubuntu 20.04 on Dell XPS 9570. I tried booting from fresh Kubuntu 20.04 live USB drive, and the external drive **is actually visible there** Expected behaviour: after plugging into USB port the external drive is automatically mounted and accessible via file manager Actual behaviour: the external drive is not mounted and not even visible in partitioning software or fdisk utility. The drive is visible and mounted correctly while booting from fresh Kubuntu 20.04 live USB drive Drives are visible in dmesg: [111851.908755] usb 2-1: new SuperSpeed Gen 1 USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd [111851.957345] usb 2-1: New USB device found, idVendor=8564, idProduct=7000, bcdDevice=80.00 [111851.957351] usb 2-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=2, Product=3, SerialNumber=1 [111851.957355] usb 2-1: Product: StoreJet Transcend [111851.957358] usb 2-1: Manufacturer: StoreJet Transcend [111851.957360] usb 2-1: SerialNumber: WL1J5AXN [111852.008854] usbcore: registered new interface driver usb-storage [112321.441847] usb 2-1: USB disconnect, device number 2 [112351.943134] usb 2-2: new SuperSpeed Gen 1 USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd [112351.991510] usb 2-2: New USB device found, idVendor=8564, idProduct=7000, bcdDevice=80.00 [112351.991516] usb 2-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=2, Product=3, SerialNumber=1 [112351.991519] usb 2-2: Product: StoreJet Transcend [112351.991522] usb 2-2: Manufacturer: StoreJet Transcend [112351.991525] usb 2-2: SerialNumber: WL1J5AXN and in lsusb: Bus 002 Device 003: ID 8564:7000 Transcend Information, Inc.
