"Which video hardware do you use? Which version of Ubuntu is that?" Same problem for me : ATI Radeon 9200, updated Ubuntu 6.06. Problem seems to occur in Gnome only (but I don't use KDE very much). I had not this problem with Ubuntu 5.10.
