The reason nothing appears from uboot on the console is that the vc4
-fkms-v3d overlay breaks uboot's vidconsole. I've looked into this
previously but been unable to find out why or how to work around it. The
pi firmware initializes a framebuffer and passes details of this to the
"kernel" (in our case uboot). The framebuffer created differs in the
case of fkms vs legacy (I can't remember how precisely, but if people
need this I can dig it out); but I'm not sure why that matters as uboot
goes and makes its own framebuffer anyway (from what I recall).
