Just lost an hour of tagging due to this unexpected behavior. I suggest that * selections are persisted ! * it's already quite easy to clear selection, for example with "ctrl+a del". a context-menu option of "Clear all selections" could be added * if really necessary for some obscure workflow, a "Persist selections" switch, by default enabled, can be added to Preferences
