Could you install https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/evemu-tools, and run:
$ sudo evemu-record /dev/input/eventX Attach both of your gamepads one by one, use `dmesg -w` to find out the input device ids similar to following messages: [ 45.791960] input: HuiJia USB GamePad as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb1/1-1/1-1.2/1-1.2:1.0/0003:0E8F:3013.0001/input/input17 [ 45.848217] input: HuiJia USB GamePad as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb1/1-1/1-1.2/1-1.2:1.0/0003:0E8F:3013.0001/input/input18 [ 45.848335] hid-generic 0003:0E8F:3013.0001: input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.10 Joystick [HuiJia USB GamePad] on usb-0000:00:1a.0-1.2/input0 In the above case, X is 17 or 18. Try all those buttons on the broken to see if it still generates event.
