Public bug reported:

A left click with my mouse is sometimes taken as a double-click,
resulting in menus opening and immediately closing, or going back two
steps in a browser. The bug is intermittent, but frequent enough to be
very annoying- sometimes it's necessary to click on a menu 4-5 times
before it stays open. I believe this problem started quite recently.

I have a USB mouse and am using a laptop with a touch pad. I'm using
Ubuntu 7.10.

I have come across a couple of links which suggest this might be a bug
in a recent update of xserver-xorg:

http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg70151.html

There's only one mouse entry in etc/X11/xorg.conf, as follows:

Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier "Configured Mouse"
        Driver "mouse"
        Option "CorePointer"
        Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
        Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
        Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
        Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true"
EndSection
