During the last days I've focused my attention on the USB hotplug
malfunction (as of point 10.). I came to the conclusion that:

13.  freezing of Gutsy on my computers, completely disappears if the USB
v2.0 controller is disabled through the BIOS setup, at the same time USB
hotplug works OK through the USB v.1 mode.

This has been observed on:

ASRock K7S41 MB, 2GB DDR, SIS661FX on MB video, 1 ATA/Ultra DMA Mode 6
HD and Kingston 512MB USB memory stick.
