Just FYI there is now a new solution, no need for HPLIP nor proprietary drivers with other manufacturers.
Most Multi-function scanners and now some stand alone scanners are Airscan/eSCL compatible, which includes most HP multifunctions. Also Kyocera, Cannon, Epson and more support eSCL/Airprint. See this WONDERFUL new driver and support the developer.
