As per the build log of https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu- cdimage/+livefs/ubuntu/bionic/cpc/+build/199296, it can be seen that the build pulls in linux-raspi2-hwe-18.04-edge for the kernel - so this seems to work as expected. So at least this part of the new pi support is good to go.
