I would like to say that I have the same problem since I upgraded to Gutsy from Feisty a couple of days ago. Freeze-ups are very irregular and only the mouse is working after. Can't access the console with Ctrl+Alt+F1. I can log remotely from another machine. Xorg is taking 100% of the CPU but since the machine is dual processor it is still pretty responsive. I don't have superkaramba running so that fix doesn't apply to me. I am using the ati driver and the graphic card is a "ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE]". Also, I try to kill Xorg with "killall -9 Xorg" but this doesn't seem to help. Xorg is still there running. I wonder if mine could be a different bug. I am using the standard Gutsy kernel for i686.
