This isn't consistent. I've seen it when grouping data as "bytes", but at the moment I'm looking at a file which shows some space when grouped as bytes, no space when groups as (16bit) words and lots of space when grouped as long words. I have also seen the problem go away when "Show unsigned and float as hexadecimal" is ticked (and stay away when unticked).
