I can confirm that when using the hardware off switch for the card, then stopping the network and unloading the module works. The crash interval seems to be accelerated when using vpn, perhaps because the nic is under heavier load? Crashed 3 times since my last post.
SunnyBug, It is marked Assigned to ubuntu kernel team, if it was considered a non release-critical bug they would have marked it "Wont Fix". When marked wont fix, it won't be fixed before the next release cycle. I am right? I think all of us with this problem agree that this IS a release critical bug. Google shows no other distributions with this problem, hence it seems to be a critical ubuntu only bug. There are also some duplicate bugs on lanchpad describing similar issues.
