I have added an attachment that shows the g-p-m setting I use. On the left is the AC- adapter window, on the right is the battery window. With these settings and LCD brightness set to 100 percent (use the gnome brightness applet with the slider moved all the way up/your Fn keys), g-p-m will not try to change the screen brightness and won't steal mouse focus from full screen games.
