Further to my previous comment, I have now tested the following
additional mainline kernels from https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D
4.16.0-041600rc1-generic
4.15.18-041518-generic
4.15.17-041517-generic
The bug does not occur when running these kernels.
