Chris, It was bad enough obsessing about one mysterious number, but now your remarks regarding VALUE and THRESH really got me worried. Here's my reading:
193 Load_Cycle_Count 0x0032 026 026 000 Old_age Always - 149312 I've been using this Seagate hard disk for less than a year, and VALUE has already dropped to 26. My records show that it's dropped 2 units since Nov. 1. Are you sure those numbers are any more significant than the raw value (which I'm not particularly worried about)? Other "old age" readings look reasonable, for instance: 4 Start_Stop_Count 0x0032 100 100 020 Old_age Always - 487 9 Power_On_Hours 0x0032 096 096 000 Old_age Always - 3917 12 Power_Cycle_Count 0x0032 100 100 020 Old_age Always - 494 and a different one looks like a terminal diagnosis: 189 Unknown_Attribute 0x003a 001 001 000 Old_age Always - 256 -- High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/59695 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
