Hi again, Epson Perfection 4490 Photo, new Ubuntu Mate 19.04 install, iscan-bundle-1.0.0.x64.deb.tar.gz driver, make sure to add the line 'epkowa'to the /etc/sane.d/dll.conf file first; xsane gave a 'Access to resource has been denied' message as a regular user, same with 'sudo xsane' from a terminal, what I did is:
1) from a terminal enter 'sudo passwd root' and create a password for the root user, when done 2) enter 'su root' and provide the newly created password, when root 3) run 'xsane' despite the warnings AND scan a page (a previous attempt without scanning didn't work), after that, believe it or not, the scanner works, I do not really understand why and how, but this is it, though YMMV.
