> Laptop does not support UEFI Then how and why is the firmware booting \efi\boot\bootx64.efi from this CD?
This is certainly not a syslinux bug, syslinux only provides a BIOS bootloader on these images and never attempts to chain to the EFI bootloader. Reassigning to shim; but if the laptop doesn't properly support UEFI, then you should probably make sure the firmware isn't trying to do a UEFI boot of the disk. > Under Ubuntu 16.04, "sudo efibootmgr" reports that "EFI variables are not supported on this system." This doesn't actually tell us anything. If Ubuntu was installed in BIOS mode and the system is booted in BIOS mode, this is the result, even if the firmware does support UEFI. ** Package changed: syslinux (Ubuntu) => shim (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1810070 Title: 18.04.1 Live CD fails to boot with EFI errors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim/+bug/1810070/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
