So I plugged in the laptop so that it was wired to the 'net. Now When I try to enable the firmware, there doesn't seem to be any sources that the "Downloading Package files" dialog seems to be downloading from. I hit 'cancel' and it comes up with this error: W: Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/b/bcm43xx-fwcutter/bcm43xx-fwcutter_006-3_i386.deb
so it obviously knows where to download from. it just for some reason doesn't... want to. So I did 'wget http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/b/bcm43xx-fwcutter/bcm43xx-fwcutter_006-3_i386.deb' in a terminal, installed via 'sudo dpkg -i bcm43xx*'. Went to the restricted drivers dialog again. Selected the bcm43xx firmware, and selected the file from my desktop that I got from ' http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#firmwareinstallation'. It was a long process that I personally would like to see improved in future versions of Ubuntu in some way. -- bcm43xx: Error: Microcode "bcm43xx_microcode5.fw" not available or load failed. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/162324 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
