@Alf: Alrighty, thanks for the post back . . . it isn't an insurmountable problem enough to warrant a fresh install . . . on what is a "developmental distro" . . . . It's now updated to LXQT "latest edition" . . . still a tad "irritating" to get an error window when trying to open the Home directory . . . . Just posting on the bug report, because it's a "problem" . . . and there was a post on the Lubuntu user's list-serve basically complaining about this "failure to open" error when clicking on desktop icons . . . .
If a random update/upgrade "solves" the problem I'll post back on it . . . otherwise "we'll" just consider it a continuing "problem" . . . .
